Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is The Author Hour: Your Guide to Fantastic Fiction?
A: The Author Hour is an online radio show hosted by Matthew Peterson that originally aired every Thursday at 12 noon eastern on VoiceAmerica.com in 2009-2010. The show now runs independent of VoiceAmerica on a more relaxed schedule. You can listen to archived shows at any time. Each themed episode contains around four popular fiction authors like Dean Koontz, Anne Rice, Terry Pratchett, Meg Cabot, Diana Gabaldon, Terry Brooks, and Charlaine Harris. The transcribed interviews and extra questions that didn't make it onto the live show are archived at www.TheAuthorHour.com.
Q: Does it cost anything to listen to the show?
A: NOPE! The show is FREE! You don't have to join anything to listen to or read the interview, either... although there are more benefits when you join the forum or sign up for the free newsletter.
Q: How long is the show?
A: The show is one hour long, broken up into four sections: 13, 12, 12, and 9 minutes of actual interview time with commercial breaks in-between. Most episodes have 4 guests, but a few have 5 or 6. The second season may be different.
Q: Is the show family safe?
A: For the most part, YES! We encourage our guests to use clean language, plus we do have the ability to edit the show if we need to. Most of the interviews are G-rated; however, some of the content of the actual books that the authors have written may contain adult material, and occasionally we might mention that material in a general way. For instance, one guest mentioned that she had been abused as a child, but we didn't go into detail.
Who is the host, Matthew Peterson?
A: Matthew Peterson is an award-winning and best-selling author, second degree black belt in karate, Eagle scout, computer programmer and former missionary. He lives in Arizona with his wife, five boys and their giant African tortoise. Go to The Host page to learn more.
His debut young adult science fantasy novel, Paraworld Zero, hit two bestseller lists and won, placed or honored in over fifteen contests, including the Mom's Choice Awards, the ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Awards and the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards. Reviewers have said that Paraworld Zero is a "Harry Potter meets Star Wars" yet is "one of those novels that stands out among the rest" because of its "original, creative, and engaging story" and "colorful characters, fast-paced adventure, and clever humor." The audio book (which contains over 100 unique character voices) and eBook are available from audible.com, iTunes, Overdrive, Amazon (Kindle), Sony Reader, etc. Click HERE to buy a signed copy.
Q: Can I get a copy of the show?
A: YES! But only for non-business use. Guests, contact us for more info about hosting your interview on your own website. We took down the MP3 and iTune links, but we may put them back up in the future. You can still listen to the show on this site, though. Please DO NOT edit the audio or transcribed interview without written permission from Matthew Peterson. You can read the transcribed interviews on http://TheAuthorHour.com and http://AuthorFanClubs.com and listen to bonus questions that didn't air on the show. That bonus material cannot not copied.

A: We have custom eCards for each episode that you can forward to your friends and family. Sign up for the eCard here. You can also direct people to the radio show flyer (PDF document)
If you've got a website, blog, newlsetter, etc. then please add this link: http://TheAuthorHour.com (You can also link directly to an episode or author on TheAuthorHour.com website). We've also added AddThis icons on most pages for you to post links back on your blogs and social networking sites.
If you're an author, publicist, publisher, agent, etc. then I am willing to also allow you to host the radio interview on your site as long as you don't edit the audio file yourself. Some commercials may have to remain in the interview, so please contact me for further details. I can also give you a copy of just one interview, instead of the entire 1-hour show.
Q: Can I or my publisher advertise on your show?
A: Probably. Because of my target audience (readers, writers and booksellers), the ideal sponsors for my show are publishers, producers, conventions, or entertainment entities who want to promote their books, magazines, movies, authors or actors. Email us for rates. Right now we offer banner ads. Matthew can also mention your product during a show. Depending on your company, he might be willing to have authors that you want to promote as guests on the show (a good way to bring attention to a newcomer). Go to the advertising page for more info on becoming a sponsor of the show.
