Matthew Peterson:
Let me ask you a bonus question here. If you could have a supernatural power, like someone in your book, what would it be and why?
Kelley Armstrong:
[laughs] If I could have a supernatural power, out of all the ones that I have in my own books, it’d be werewolf. I mean just the idea of being able to experience life in a different form, to become a wolf and see the world that way would be wonderful.
Matthew Peterson:
And I’ll ask you a couple more bonus questions. Let me ask you again, why is it that you’d like to be a werewolf? [laughs]
Kelley Armstrong:
[laughs]
Matthew Peterson:
I mean, ‘cause it doesn’t seem like the happiest life, but . . .
Kelley Armstrong:
No, it doesn’t and that would kind of be my fantasy one. If I could do whatever I want, it would be werewolf; although, when you come down to all the side effects of it, yeah, it wouldn’t be the practical choice. I think the practical choice would be spell caster.
Matthew Peterson:
Uh, huh.
Kelley Armstrong:
Because you can cast spells, or you cannot cast them, and there’s no ill effect on your life otherwise.
Matthew Peterson:
Yeah, the one thing with werewolves is like, “Man where’s my clothes?” [laughs]
Kelley Armstrong:
[laughs] That is a problem. They need, you know, fanny packs.
Matthew Peterson:
Yeah. Well, the other question I wanted to ask you is do you have a favorite story in the Otherworld series? It’s kind of your favorite?
Kelley Armstrong:
I don’t have a favorite. I have ones that I like better than others. The ones that are heavier on the action are the ones that I prefer. The ones that are usually not the first book for a narrator, but through the fifth, second, third book, when I’m really into the story. So favorites would be Stolen, Industrial Magic, Frostbitten, Living with the Dead. There are some that are just... there was a lot more going on in them, a lot more adventure and that’s the part I really love.
Matthew Peterson:
So once the character has been more established, now they can just [laughs] go out and do their thing.
Kelley Armstrong:
Right, take off running.
Matthew Peterson:
Yeah. Well, that’s cool.
