Bonus Question(s) that Didn't Air on the Live Radio Show
Note that you can also listen to this while you read it.
Matthew Peterson:
Now for the bonus question. Now, I do understand that you are a Methodist Lay Preacher, so I’m going to ask you kind of a silly question and then maybe a serious question. First off, just what’s your favorite food?
David Weber:
[laughs] My favorite food. These days . . .uh. . . woo . . . toughy. I’m the cook. I love to cook. I would have to say right this minute it’s a good coconut based Thai curry.
Matthew Peterson:
Oh! Okay. That sounds good. Okay, now for a more serious question. You can draw upon your work as a Methodist preacher for this one. What’s your advice for living a happy life?
David Weber:
Well, I can come at that in several ways. I know in my own life my faith is a central part of it, but I think that whether you are going to have a faith in an overt God’s existence or not, probably the secret to living a happy life is to take responsibility--to be able to look back at the end of the day and say, “You know what? I’ve made mistakes. I screwed up. I didn’t get everything right, but by-god, I’ve tried.” And I recognize that a human being to be truly adult has to take that responsibility and has to discharge obligations to others, because that’s the way you discharge the ultimate and truest obligation to yourself.
Matthew Peterson:
Good. I like that answer. That’s a good answer, David.
